MI vs RCB, IPL 2025: Even the best players can struggle when returning after a long break, and Jasprit Bumrah likely felt this on Monday (April 7) when he bowled his first over in the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Long-Awaited Return to IPL 2025

Jasprit Bumrah hadn’t played a competitive match since the Sydney Test in January. He was part of India’s Champions Trophy squad but couldn’t recover in time. Bumrah missed the first four IPL 2025 matches for Mumbai Indians before finally returning on Monday against Royal Challengers Bangalore. With RCB at 33 for 1 after 3 overs, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya gave Bumrah the ball.

Bumrah was eager to make an impact, but he quickly learned that the game can be tough. On the first ball of his over, Devdutt Padikkal took a single, bringing Virat Kohli, one of the best batsmen, to the strike. Kohli immediately attacked to prevent Bumrah from finding his rhythm. On the first ball he faced from Bumrah, Kohli hit a six, sending the ball over deep midwicket in style.

Patidar and Sharma’s Contributions Keep RCB in Control

Virat Kohli made the most of his good start, scoring a solid fifty, while RCB captain Rajat Patidar also scored fifty. Together, they helped RCB reach a total of 221/5.

RCB started poorly, losing Phil Salt for just four runs in the first over. But Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the innings with a 91-run partnership, with Kohli completing his fifty in 29 balls.

In the 15th over, Hardik Pandya took two quick wickets, dismissing Kohli for 67 and Liam Livingstone for a duck. However, Patidar’s quick 50 off 25 balls and a cameo from Jitesh Sharma (40* from 19 balls) helped RCB recover.
