Chennai Super Kings faced more criticism from Irfan Pathan after their fourth straight loss in IPL 2025. This time, the criticism was for their poor fielding performance in their recent 18-run defeat against Punjab Kings in Chandigarh on April 8.
On a night when Chennai Super Kings’ bowling was already being criticized, their careless fielding made things worse. They dropped several catches, allowing the game to slip away from them against Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
Irfan Pathan’s Social Media Mockery of Poor Fielding
Fans and cricket experts were shocked as CSK missed four chances that could have changed the game in their favor. After their fourth straight loss in IPL 2025, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan criticized both CSK and PBKS for their poor fielding.
Watching the fielding mistakes from both teams, Pathan took to social media to mock them, saying even retired players would have done a better job. He also pointed out that the fielding in the Legends League Cricket was much better than what he saw in this match.
Irfan Pathan posted on X: “8 drop catches in the game today. Itne to legend league mein Nahi chorte bhai (we don’t drop this many even in legends leagues).”

CSK’s Fielding Mistakes Against PBKS
Chennai Super Kings’ problems began right from the first over against Punjab Kings. Khaleel Ahmed missed an easy return catch, giving Priyansh Arya a second chance, and he made the most of it by scoring his first-ever IPL century to help PBKS win.
Then, in the fifth over, Vijay Shankar dropped Marcus Stoinis, and Arya got another chance later in the game. Ravichandran Ashwin missed a catch, and Mukesh Choudhary let the ball touch the boundary cushion after completing a catch at long off.
The issues continued when Ravindra Jadeja, usually reliable, dropped a catch in the outfield, giving another lifeline to Shashank Singh. CSK’s poor fielding allowed Arya and Singh extra opportunities, which they used to help PBKS set a target of 219 runs.
