Jofra Archer, the Rajasthan Royals’ star fast bowler, gave his team a strong start in their match against Gujarat Titans in the 23rd game of the IPL 2025 on Wednesday, April 9.
Jofra Archer’s Early Breakthrough Against Gill
Jofra Archer dismissed Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill in the 3rd over of the match, which is being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gill has been in excellent form this season, playing a big part in his team’s victories.
As a captain, Gill has also done well, leading the Gujarat Titans to three straight wins after their opening loss to Punjab Kings in IPL 2025.
However, in this match against Rajasthan Royals, Gill was out for just 2 runs off 3 balls. Archer bowled a fastball at 147.7 km/h, which was pitched around off-stump. Gill went for a forward shot but was late, missing the ball, which hit his off-stump.
In total, Gill has faced Archer 15 times in the IPL, getting out 3 times and scoring only 10 runs.

Before the GT vs RR match, Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla praised Jofra Archer on ESPNCricinfo, saying that Archer has been performing incredibly well and bowling with great intensity in the recent IPL matches. He said:
“Well, it’s going to be a very interesting battle because he’s somebody, first game he went for plenty and the way he came back, he’s just breathing fire at the pitch now. He just comes and he bowls that, you know, quick bowls, hard lengths. So, it’s actually a treat to watch somebody bowling like this and coming back from an injury who haven’t had like good last four, five months. So, I’m really looking forward to that battle.”
In the same discussion, Wasim Jaffer mentioned that Jofra Archer has regained his best form and has been making life difficult for the batters. He added:
“Yeah, I mean, their number five, number six haven’t been tested.So, you know, if he can break through and get a couple of wickets in that power play and if he continues to bowl like that, there’s a good chance and that, you know, Shahrukh Khan, Tewatia, they haven’t been tested yet. So, it’s going to be an interesting battle and I like the way Jofra Archer is running hard and bowling. You know, earlier he used to bowl that, you know, slower deliveries in the power play.”
“You know, somebody who can bowl 145, 150 clicks, you don’t want to see that. I think he went back to his strengths and that seems to be working.”
