RCB’s batting coach Dinesh Karthik praised Virat Kohli after their win against Rajasthan Royals. He said it’s very hard to stay consistent for 18 years, and it takes a lot of hard work and determination to keep performing like that in the IPL.
In Match 42 of IPL 2025, played on Thursday, April 24 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli played a great innings, scoring 70 runs from just 42 balls. He hit eight fours and two sixes, helping RCB reach a strong total of 206 runs. It looked like he might score a century, but Jofra Archer got him out before he could reach that milestone.
Dinesh Karthik hailed Virat Kohli for his consistency
In a video posted by RCB on X (earlier known as Twitter), Dinesh Karthik talked about how consistent Virat Kohli has been in the IPL for 18 years. He also shared that Kohli himself admitted he could have made smarter choices in the earlier matches played in Bengaluru..
“It’s one thing to play IPL for 18 years, but it’s a different thing to be consistent for 18 years. It just tells you a lot about the man. And he was very determined. He just felt the first three games in Bangalore. He told me two things,” Karthik said.
“One, that probably he could have thought a little better. And B, he felt the fans, the way he looks at it. He knows that a lot of the people turn up just to watch him play. So you can see, even though he didn’t say it explicitly, he felt that,” he added.
DK called Kohli a “True Champion”
Dinesh Karthik said that Virat Kohli stays focused and adjusts well to different situations. He also shared that Kohli has helped younger players like Devdutt Padikkal and made sure Phil Salt felt at home in the team. Karthik called him a true champion who shows others the way by his actions.
“That man puts his mind to something, the way he adapts, understands situations. I’m too small a person to even speak about it. He’s an absolute champion. Just the way he went about it. Also guiding Dev [Devdutt Padikkal] along the way. Making sure it took Salt along at the start. His body language, his commitment to a cause. Outstanding,” Karthik concluded.
Kohli and Padikkal added 95 runs, with Padikkal scoring 50 off 27 balls. Tim David and Jitesh Sharma chipped in with quick runs at the end.
Kohli celebrated RCB’s first home win, thanking fans. He’s second on the Orange Cap list with 392 runs in nine games and was IPL 2024’s top scorer.
