Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history in IPL 2025 by becoming the youngest player ever to play in the tournament. The 14-year-old had a great start, hitting a six on the very first ball he faced. He scored 34 runs from 20 balls in his first match. In his second game, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he scored 16 runs from 12 balls.
Virender Sehwag’s Advice For Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Former India star Virender Sehwag shared some advice for the youngster. He told Suryavanshi to stay humble, not let fame affect him, and to look up to Virat Kohli for inspiration.
Sehwag warned Suryavanshi to stay grounded and be open to criticism about his game, no matter how famous he becomes.
“If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player,” Sehwag stated, speaking on Cricbuzz.
In his two innings so far, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has struggled with spin and slower deliveries. Some of his boundaries came from edges, and he often mistimed his powerful shots.
Sehwag advised him to learn from Virat Kohli and focus on having a long IPL career, possibly for the next 20 years, rather than getting distracted by fame and hype.
“Suryavanshi must aim to play 20 years in the IPL. Look at Virat Kohli, he started playing when he was 19 years old, now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate. But, if he is happy with this IPL, thinking that he is now a millionaire, had a great debut, hit a six off the first ball, maybe we won’t see him next year,” Sehwag added.
Suryavanshi’s Potential: Developing Under Rahul Dravid’s Guidance
At just 13 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction for Rs 1.1 crore, becoming the youngest player ever sold in an IPL auction.
With Rahul Dravid guiding him, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has a great chance to grow as a player at the Rajasthan Royals. But the team hasn’t done well this season.
RR has lost three games in a row while chasing, even though they were in good positions to win. After losing seven of their first nine matches, they are almost out of the race for the playoffs.
