Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Sam Curran made a strong impact with a brilliant innings against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 match on Wednesday, April 30.
Sam Curran Shines Against Former Team
Curran looked fired up during his knock and showed his energy with a bold ‘call me’ celebration during the 49th match of the season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Sam Curran, the former captain of Punjab Kings, had a rough start to IPL 2025. In his first three matches, he scored only 4, 8, and 9 runs against the Mumbai Indians (MI), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He also didn’t take any wickets with the ball.
But Curran bounced back strongly against his old team, Punjab Kings. After Shaik Rasheed got out, Curran came in at No.3 and played aggressive cricket from the start.
He batted confidently and reached his half-century in the 15th over by hitting a shot down the ground off Azmatullah Omarzai and running two runs. He took just 30 balls to get to fifty.
Curran was thrilled to reach the milestone. He raised his bat to thank the crowd and then celebrated with an energetic ‘call me’ gesture and a strong swing of his bat.

Dhoni Praises Curran-Brevis Partnership
After the match, MS Dhoni praised Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis for the strong partnership they built. He called Sam Curran a true fighter. He said:
“The partnership between Brevis and Sam was excellent. We didn’t play the last four deliveries, and the second last over four batters got out. In close games, those 7 deliveries mean a lot.
“Well he’s a fighter (Curran). That’s something we all know. Whenever he turns up he wants to contribute. Unfortunately so far, whenever we tried to give him a chance, the wicket was on the slower side and he found it slightly difficult. But today’s wicket was one of the best we’ve got at home in this tournament. That’s the reason I felt we needed another 15 runs.”
In the end, MS Dhoni said that Dewald Brevis brings good momentum to the team and hinted that he could be kept in the squad for IPL 2026. MS Dhoni stated:
“It’s the momentum in the middle order (Brevis offers). He’s also a very good fielder, he has power and he can hit good balls for boundaries. And he brings good energy. Happy with the way he’s playing. He can be an asset going ahead.”
