Italian Open 2025: Carlos Alcaraz recently missed the Madrid Open due to a right abductor injury. His final match at the Barcelona Open didn’t go as planned. The third-ranked Spanish player lost to Holger Rune 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 and also suffered muscle injuries, forcing him to withdraw from the Madrid Open.

Alcaraz shared, “In the Barcelona Open final, I felt discomfort in my right abductor, but I also felt something in my left leg.” He added, “I couldn’t practice all week and discovered I had hamstring and groin injuries. I had to listen to my body and make the right decision.”

He explained that tennis is a demanding sport, saying, “Playing week after week, so many matches in a row, you sometimes need to heal your body and make tough decisions.”

Carlos Alcaraz missed the Madrid Open

The 21-year-old missed the Madrid Open, which was a significant setback, especially since he had won the tournament twice in the last three years (2022 and 2023).

This setback happened at a critical time, with the French Open (Roland Garros) approaching. The French Open starts on April 25, but what about the Italian Open? Will Alcaraz participate? Here’s the latest update!

Carlos Alcaraz Aims for the Italian Open

Alcaraz has resumed training in Murcia, which hints that he might still participate in the Italian Open, even though he withdrew from the Madrid Open.

Medical scans brought good news: the small tear in his abductor muscle has fully healed, according to Marca.

The third-ranked player is gradually increasing his training intensity and testing his body with competitive practice sets before making the final decision on the Italian Open.

Footage showed Alcaraz working with his coaching team in Spain, carefully assessing his physical condition before the Rome tournament. The draw for the Italian Open will take place on Monday, May 5, at noon (CEST).

Carlos Alcaraz’s participation in the Italian Open is not yet confirmed, but his recent steps suggest that he might compete in Rome. Whatever the decision, it will be an important moment for tennis fans.
