Rain Washes Out DC vs SRH Clash in Hyderabad
Their chances of qualification became even harder when their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was called off due to rain. The 55th game of IPL 2025 was scheduled at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 5th.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were eliminated from IPL 2025 after their match against Delhi Capitals was washed out due to rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Not only were they knocked out, but the rain also made it harder for DC to qualify.
Pat Cummins Wrecks DC Top Order in Powerplay
DC had a rough start when Karun Nair was out on the first ball, and things quickly got worse. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers, especially Pat Cummins, dominated the DC batsmen. Cummins took three wickets in the powerplay, leaving DC at a struggling 29 for 5.
Vipraj Nigam (18), who had been trying to rescue the team, was soon out, and DC was 62 for 6. It looked like they might be all out for under 100.
But Tristan Stubbs (41) and Ashutosh Sharma (41) fought back with a strong partnership of 66 runs, helping DC reach 133 for 7. Pat Cummins was the top bowler for SRH, taking three wickets.
The second innings couldn’t start because of rain, and the match was called off. This resulted in Hyderabad being eliminated from the tournament.
After the washout against SRH, Delhi Capitals earned one point, moving to 5th place on the points table with 13 points from 11 games. They have won 6 matches and need to perform better in their remaining games.
DC’s Updated Playoff Scenario Explained
DC still has a chance to make the playoffs with three games left. To qualify, they need to win at least two of these three games to reach 16 points. Three wins will guarantee their spot, but any more than one loss will hurt their chances.
If they win just one game, they’ll finish with 15 points and still have a shot at qualification, depending on Net Run Rate and other results.
DC’s next three matches are:
- May 8: vs Punjab Kings in Dharamsala
- May 11: vs Gujarat Titans at home
- May 15: vs Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
