The Khelo India scheme has been extended for 4 years. Earlier this Games scheme was to end in the 2021-22 season, but it has been extended for 2025-26. This announcement was made by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

An estimate of expenditure sent to Ministry of Finance. Rijiju said that the ministry has decided to extend the Khelo India scheme from 2021-22 to 2025-26. The total expenditure on games in these 4 years is estimated at 8750. Its estimate has been sent to the Ministry of Finance. 657.71 crore has been sanctioned for the 2021-22 season under the Khelo India Scheme.

Youth Games to be held after Tokyo Olympics 2021

The Khelo India Youth Games 2020, to be held in November-December last year, was canceled due to a pandemic. While the 2021 Games will be followed by the Tokyo Olympics this year. They have been hosted by Panchkula of Haryana. However, the schedule for Youth Games has not been released yet. The Tokyo Olympics will take place from 23 July to 8 August this year.

The country’s top players and teams get a chance. In Khelo India, the top-8 players and teams of the school national games and other tournaments of other sports associations get a chance to play. Out of this, the top players are selected and they are given scholarships.

Selected 1000 players to get scholarships of Rs 5 lakhs every year. Every year the best players are given Rs. 5 lakhs scholarship for 8 years to prepare for the International Championship. Out of this, one lakh 20 thousand rupees are given as pocket money and the remaining amount is spent on their living, eating and drinking and training.

Players like Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary are the results of Khelo India. Many players selected under Khelo India have joined the target Olympic podium scheme by winning medals at the international level. According to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) official, weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga, shooter Saurabh Chaudhary, Manu Bhaker, swimmer Mr. Hari Nataraj are descended from Khelo India itself. Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary has also won the Olympic quota.
