Aprilia Insists Jorge Martin Must Honour Contract Through 2026

4 Min Read

Aprilia has stayed silent until now upon the rumours of Jorge Martin’s potential exit from the brand, even though the contract is still “valid and in effect” through 2026. Martin has had a tough season in 2025 with a repeated series of injuries that have sidelined him from most races in the MotoGP 2025 calendar. He has only appeared in one race, that is, the Qatar MotoGP 2025, where he again met with a crash and suffered rib injuries and a lug puncture.

This makes his return even more delayed for now until he’s cleared by the medical department to practice again. Recent rumours have it that he might be looking at a possible exit at the end of the 2025 season despite having the contract through 2026. Reports suggest that he might capitalise on the performance clause related to the competitiveness of the Aprilia bike, which he finds unsatisfactory, especially given the limited time due to his injuries.

Aprilia Reponds With A Firm Statement

In response to this, Aprilia Racing has issued a firm official statement denying any negotiations to break or modify the duration of the contract.

In an official press release, Aprilia Racing released a statement that read, “The contract between Aprilia Racing and Jorge Martín is valid and in effect, and as such, it must be respected by both parties until its expiration (end of 2026). Aprilia Racing has honoured it in full, within the agreed-upon timelines and terms, and will continue to do so in the future.

Aprilia Racing denies that any negotiations have taken place between the parties to modify the duration of the contract, which remains as originally agreed upon. The team has no comment on matters that do not directly concern it, but expects other teams to refrain from making any kind of offer to riders who are under contract. Such behaviour would, in any case, not be legitimate.

The entire Team will continue to support Jorge throughout his recovery process, as it always has, and looks forward to seeing him back on track with the RS-GP.”

Francesco Bagnaia Insists Jorge Martin To “Must-Respect” The Contract

Adding to the discourse, Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia publicly commented on the situation and suggested Martin respect the contract he signed with Aprilia. He said, “When you have a contract, you need to follow it; you cannot cancel it. In my opinion, if you take the words about something and if you sign something, you must respect it. I think that’s the correct thing. It’s like a marriage: if you decide to go forward, you must give your maximum to make your life happy.”

Even though they’re just rumours as of now, the possibilities are high. However, despite the rumours, the team insists he must honour his contract through 2026. His return is for now uncertain, however, it is expected to be soon, given his cryptic Instagram post about a potential comeback.
