India’s athletes have shown who’s the boss at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 once again with Gulveer Singh and Parul Chaudhary claiming medals to add to the nation’s medal rush. Both athletes delivered record-breaking performances and made the country proud at the prestigious event, especially since India has already been doing excellently in the tournament.
Gulveer Singh’s Triumph
Gulveer Singh emerged as one of the standout performers of the championships, clinching yet another gold in the men’s 5000m, where he delivered a sensational finish. He clocked 13:24:77, breaking the Asian Championship record previously set by Qatar’s Mohammed Al-Garni since 2015. His time narrowly edged out Thailand’s Kieran Tuntivate and Nagiya Mori, who completed the podium.
The gold was Gulveer’s second of the meet as he had already claimed his first gold medal in the 10,000m, clocking at 28:38:63, which marked India’s third ever gold in the category at the Asian Athletics Championships.
Parul Chaudhary Set A National Record
Parul Chaudhary, the defending champion in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, delivered a stunning performance and scored a silver medal. She finished with a national record time of 9:12.46, making her record better than the one she set at the Doha Diamond League. She was second only to Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto Tanui, who took gold, while Daisy Jepkemei of Bahrain claimed bronze.
India’s campaign at the Asian Athletics Championships has been marked by a consistent flow of medals across disciplines. India’s tally has risen to 18 medals with 8 golds, 7 silvers, and 3 bronze medals, placing the nation second only to China in the standings.
