Gujarat Titans are out of IPL 2025, and according to former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, the main reason is simple – bad fielding and poor bowling. In the Eliminator match against Mumbai Indians, GT made some big mistakes, especially by dropping Rohit Sharma’s catch not once but twice. And like always, Rohit made them regret it.

Rohit Sharma gave full punishment

The match took place on May 30 in New Chandigarh, where Mumbai Indians made a huge total of 228/5 while batting first. GT tried to chase, but they could only reach 208/6. They lost the match by 20 runs and were out of IPL.

Aakash Chopra said in his YouTube video:

“How will you grab the match if you don’t grab catches? Agar doge jeevandan, to Rohit Sharma itna maarega ki yaad rakhega poora khaandan (If you give lives, Rohit Sharma would hit so much that your entire family would remember). The Gujarat Titans lost their third consecutive game.”

GT had dropped catches against MI earlier also, and this time also the same mistake was repeated. In the first match, 3 catches were dropped in the powerplay at Wankhede, and in this Eliminator also 2-3 easy catches were dropped.

Rohit did not miss the opportunity

Rohit Sharma’s catch was dropped by Gerald Coetzee on 3, and then by Kusal Mendis on 12. Rohit took advantage of both the opportunities and scored 81 runs in 50 balls. This innings became the turning point of the match.

GT Bowling’s standard went down

Chopra also questioned GT’s bowling performance. He said:

“Gujarat Titans, what is your problem? A lot of Gujaratis might also be asking what you people did. When you played at the Wankhede, you dropped three catches in the powerplay overs. When you played here, you dropped two or three catches here too. What is happening?”

Prasidh Krishna, who usually does well in the middle overs, was forced to give him a new ball. The result was that Jonny Bairstow made his bowling look bad. Chopra also said that Siraj has also not been performing well in the last few matches.

Gerald Coetzee and Rashid Khan were also not effective

Coetzee did not bowl till the 10th over and when he came on, he gave away 51 runs in 3 overs.

Rashid Khan did a little better but he also did not seem to be in his best form. Sai Kishore and Rabada were also average. GT bowlers took wickets but gave away too many runs.
