Why can Roger Binny be removed from the post of BCCI President?

Roger Binny will turn 70 on 19 July 2025, which is the maximum age limit for an official as per BCCI rules. This rule is part of the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, which was made by the Supreme Court to bring reforms within the BCCI. As a result of this rule, Binny will have to step down from his post, whether his term is completed or not.
What is Lodha Committee and who formed it?
Lodha Committee was a reform panel formed by the Supreme Court of India in 2015, after the IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal. The purpose of the committee was to bring transparency, accountability and fairness in the functioning system of BCCI. Headed by Justice R.M. Lodha, this panel made several strong recommendations, like age limit, cooling-off period, and conflict of interest rule. Because of these reforms, senior officials like Roger Binny have to follow specific rules.

His record in the ODI format was also impressive, in which he played 72 matches and scored a total of 629 runs and took 77 wickets to his name.
His most memorable performance was in the 1983 World Cup, where he made a major contribution in India’s historic title win by taking 18 wickets. Before becoming the BCCI president, Binny was also a part of the selection committee, where he used his deep cricketing experience in administration.
