According to some recent reports Lionel Messi might leave for Argentina to play in Copa America before signing a new contract with Barcelona.

The Barcelona captain is yet to sign a new contract by the end of the season which would otherwise see him becoming a free agent.

Last Week Jorge Messi, Leo’s father, and Joan Laporta met to discuss the terms of a new deal with Lionel Messi.

According to the reports Laporta presented a 10-year deal for Messi that would see him stay in Catalan’s service well beyond his playing time with the club.

Laporta proposed additional 2 years playing for Barcelona followed by 3 years, playing in America for Inter Miami and then returning to the club in an administrative position.

Lionel Messi, however, has made his intentions clear that he would only put pen to the paper if the current Barcelona board presents him with a financially viable and competitive project that would see him win trophies from next season onwards.

Barcelona is currently 2nd in La-Liga and but is out of the race for the trophy after a 3-3 draw with Levante.

This season Barcelona could only win the Copa Del Rey trophy after defeating Sevilla 2-0.
