Carlos Slim Hints At Possible Return
In a recent development, Carlos Slim, the Mexican billionaire who played a huge role in Sergio Perez’s success, hinted at his potential return.
He said, “I know he’s considering various options. He has the support of all of us and the fans. He has been working on his preparation, and hopefully, his return will happen. We would all be very happy to see it back on the track, but it’s something he’s now analysing.”
Sergio Perez Is in “Talks” With A Few Teams
Sergio Perez himself publicly confirmed that he is in talks with “a few” teams about a possible return in 2026. Earlier this year, in April, he said, “We are talking to a few parties out there. Once I know all my options, I will make a decision. What is very clear to me is that I’m only coming back if the project makes sense, and it’s something I can enjoy.”
Where Could He Go?
Sergio Perez is the one driver who would be highly sought after if he’s ready for a comeback. Especially by new teams entering the grid next year, like Cadillac. It’s set to join the grid as the 11th team in 2026 and has been constantly linked with Perez. The team is actively seeking an experienced driver to lead its debut, and Perez is reportedly their first choice.
Other than that, Alpine has also emerged as a leading team to seek Sergio Perez. Right now, Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto are leading the charge on the grid for Alpine. However, only Gasly is confirmed for 2026, leaving a potential seat empty for Perez to fill in.
While nothing is yet signed, chances are Sergio Perez will return to F1 in 2026 with Cadillac. The final decision will likely depend on which team can offer a competitive car and a long-term vision for Perez.
