The Pro Kabaddi League is back for another season. Following the exciting Player Auction in which franchises built up their teams, the 12th edition of the competition is now ready to get rolling.
Pro Kabaddi League 2025 is slated to begin on August 29. The announcement was made by Mashal Sports, the league’s organiser on Wednesday.
“We are thrilled to unveil the commencement date for PKL Season 12. Following a record-breaking Player Auction, which saw 10 players cross the INR 1 crore mark, we have set the foundation for what promises to be our most competitive season yet,” said Anupam Goswami, League Commissioner of Pro Kabaddi.
A total of 12 teams will feature in Pro Kabaddi League 12 with 121 players being acquired by the 12 franchises over two days of auction.
The PKL typically follows a double round robin, where all 12 teams square off twice before six of them progress to the playoffs stage. A total of 137 matches are played over the season.
Haryana Steelers are the defending champions having won their maiden title last season.
Launched in 2024, Patna Pirates are the most successful team in the history of the league with three consecutive titles.
Over the past 10 years, the PKL has had eight different champions; the Patna Pirates are the most successful team, with three consecutive titles.

There have been eight Pro Kabaddi League winners from the previous 11 seasons.
Pro Kabaddi 2025 will see top players from India and other countries as well. It has become one of the most watched leagues in the world across various sports.
Under the banner and sanction from the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), Mashal Sports and JioStar have built PKL into one of India’s most successful sports leagues. The Pro Kabaddi League has transformed India’s indigenous sport of Kabaddi and put it on the global map.
