Kumble, with 619 Test wickets (in 132 Tests) is the third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket after Muttiah Muralidaran (800) and Shane Warne (708). 337 wickets in ODIs make an impressive tally of 956 wickets. Kumble captained India in 14 Tests between 2007 and 2008, winning three and losing five.

Those 619 wickets include 35 five-wicket hauls. Kumble has eight instances where he has taken ten wickets in a match. His best bowling in an innings came against Pakistan in Delhi, 1999, where he took a perfect 10 wicket haul. He was the first Indian to do so and second overall after English off-spinner, Jim Laker. Laker had amazing figures of ten for 53 in 1956 against Australia at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Kumble finished that match with the figures of 14 wickets for 149 runs with four wickets in first and ten in second. Kumble debuted in Tests in 1990 in Manchester and last appeared in New Delhi in October-November 2008.

Legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh shared this post by ICC on his Twitter account saying, “Biggest match-winner India has ever produced.” #legend @anilkumble1074.
