India captain Shubman Gill had a point to prove in the recent Test series against England, and he definitely delivered. Gill piled up a massive 754 runs across the five matches, quieting his critics in style.
Shubman Gill Shines with the Bat but Slips in ICC Rankings
Shubman Gill finished as the top run-scorer of the series and was named India’s Player of the Series after the teams drew 2-2. His total of 754 runs is now the second-highest ever by a captain in a Test series, just behind the legendary Don Bradman who had scored 801 runs against England.
Despite this outstanding performance, Shubman Gill dropped four places in the ICC Test rankings for batters, falling from 9th to 13th. The dip came after he managed just 32 runs in the final Test, which led to a drop in his rating points.
Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna Make Big Moves in Test Bowler Rankings
India’s fast bowlers made a huge impact in the final Test at The Oval, and that showed in the latest ICC rankings.

Mohammed Siraj, who was named Player of the Match in the fifth Test, jumped 12 places to reach 15th in the ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings. He now holds a career-best 674 rating points. Prasidh Krishna also impressed, picking up eight wickets in the series decider. That performance helped him leap 25 spots to 59th, another personal best, with 368 rating points.
According to the ICC, this is the highest-ever ranking both Siraj and Krishna have achieved in Tests, following their match-winning spells in India’s narrow six-run victory.
England Pacers and Jaiswal Also on the Rise
England’s Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue also made big strides after their efforts in the final Test. Both took eight wickets and reached their best-ever positions in the rankings. Atkinson broke into the top 10 for the first time, while Tongue climbed 14 places to reach 46th.
India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his excellent form too. After scoring a century at The Oval, he moved up three spots and is now ranked in the top five among Test batters with 792 rating points.
Joe Root and Harry Brook, who also scored centuries in the final match, remain firmly in the top two spots in the ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings.
