Sarfaraz Khan once again reminded the BCCI selectors of his talent with a brilliant century for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Trophy on Monday. Left out of the squad for the recent five-match Test series against England, the right-hander let his bat do the talking as he smashed a 92-ball hundred against TNCA XI.

Sarfaraz Khan Shines Again With Century

Walking in when Mumbai were in a spot of trouble at 98/3, Sarfaraz Khan wasted no time taking the attack to the bowlers. His aggressive stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking and underlined the kind of form he is in right now.

Recently, Sarfaraz Khan also grabbed headlines for his impressive body transformation, further showing his determination to fight for a spot in the Indian team ahead of the upcoming West Indies Test series after the Asia Cup 2025.

Backing the Kanga League Tradition

Apart from his Buchi Babu heroics, Sarfaraz Khan has also been vocal about the importance of Mumbai’s famous Kanga League.

The competition, played during the monsoon season, has a special place in local cricket culture. Sarfaraz Khan turned up for his team, Parkophone Cricketers, against Islam Gymkhana and scored a quick 61 off 42 balls. More than the runs, though, his message was clear. He believes no cricketer should skip the Kanga League just because they fear failure.

“I was so excited about this Kanga League match that the reporting time was 8.30am, but I reached at 8am only. More than being satisfied with my performance, I was delighted to be able to spend time in the middle. The pitch was not easy to bat on, and I even got hit on my helmet once. Also, there was a thick grass cover across the outfield so boundaries were hard to come by,” Sarfaraz Khan told Mid-Day.

He also recalled the stories his father, coach Naushad Khan, told him about cricketing legends and how they respected the Kanga League.

“During my childhood, I heard a lot of stories from my father [coach Naushad Khan] about how Sunil Gavaskar sir once turned up for a Kanga League match despite returning from England the same morning. So, Musheer [younger brother] and I have always taken pride in playing this tournament. While returning from Nagpur last evening [Saturday], we were hoping it won’t rain today. It rained a bit this morning, but when I reached Islam Gymkhana, the weather was good. I played my last Kanga League match three years ago. I was going through the league fixture book before this game and saw my name in it for scoring a century in 2018 and it felt nice,” Sarfaraz Khan added.

For Sarfaraz Khan, both his recent performances and his attitude toward traditional Mumbai cricket are making a loud statement. He is ready, hungry, and eager to prove himself once again.
