The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shook things up on Monday, August 25, by announcing a bold and refreshing squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which will take place from September 30 to November 2 in India and Sri Lanka. What really caught everyone’s attention was the inclusion of seven players who will be making their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup appearance.

Eyman Fatima Headlines Seven Debutants

The biggest headline is the selection of 20-year-old Eyman Fatima, who hasn’t even made her ODI debut yet. She earned her spot after impressive performances in Pakistan’s domestic T20 competition and the recent T20I series against Ireland earlier this month.

Apart from Fatima, the other six players handed their first World Cup call-ups are Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar, and Syeda Aroob Shah. Their inclusion signals one of the boldest squad overhauls in Pakistan’s women’s cricket history.

Leadership and Experience

All-rounder Fatima Sana will lead the 15-member squad as captain, while wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali has been named vice-captain. To balance out the youthful energy, experienced names like Diana Baig, Aliya Riaz, Sidra Amin, and Omaima Sohail are also part of the squad.

Travelling Reserves Announced

Pakistan has also named five travelling reserves: Gull Feroza, Najiha Alvi, Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar. Interestingly, both Feroza and Alvi, who featured in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier earlier this year, now find themselves on the standby list.

PCB Confirms Training Camp Ahead of World Cup

In its official release, the PCB stated: “The 15 players alongside five reserve players will take part in a 14-day pre-South Africa series camp from Friday, 29 August. The players under the coaching staff led by Muhammad Wasim will undergo practice sessions as well as 50-over practice matches. More details regarding the camp will be announced in due course. South Africa’s women’s cricket team will arrive in Lahore on 12 September.”

Before heading to Sri Lanka for the World Cup, Pakistan will warm up with a three-match ODI series against South Africa in Lahore, running from September 16 to September 22. The same squad selected for the World Cup will also feature in this series.
