Kabaddi has several maneuvers for raiders that can prove to be a game changer. However, it is Dubki that is considered as the ultimate skill that a raider can use to turn the tide in their favour.
Dubki required excellent agility, an extremely swift reflex and presence of mind for its successful execution.
The dubki is a move executed where the raider ducks low and dives underneath and through the legs of defender(s) who are between the raider and the midline, and then runs past the midline.
It is a move to escape a chain of defenders before crossing the midline. It can be an effective tool to riddle the opposition defenders.
It becomes all the more difficult for a single defender to stop this move.
Who is known as the Dubki King?
Pardeep Narwal is known as the Dubki King for having effortlessly executed the maneuver several times. This signature move became synonymous with him as he came to be known as the Dubki King.
“This move requires everything, even brains,” proclaims Narwal, who has been performing the move since he was a young boy in his village.
“When the defender gets extremely close, then there’s an opportunity for the Dubki,” he added. “You have to be wary of the defenders who are sitting low to get through them, and that there isn’t a chain (tackle) that backs it up.”

Pulling off this move requires reading the situation while identifying the loopholes in the defense of the opposition team. The decision to make the move has to be taken in milliseconds.
“We see which defender is standing loose so we can take points from him and then judge what the defender would like to do,” PKL player Naveen Kumar points out. “But deciding when to do this move comes automatically to us.
“If the defender is in front of us, then we’ll have to duck. If he is covered with many defenders but there is a chance of escaping through a gap, then the raider does a Dubki,” he explained. “If the raider sees a gap anywhere, he will move from there.”
