China secured the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 beating India in the final in Hangzhou on Sunday. The host overcame their western neighbours 4-1 to win its first continental trophy in 16 years.
This was the third title glory for China joining South Korea and Japan as the most successful sides in the history of the tournament with three titles each.

India got off to a solid start as Navneet Kaur gave her team an early lead after a sequence of back-to-back penalty corners.
This was only the second goal China conceded throughout the tournament with Mumtaz Khan scoring the other when India lost by the same margin to China in the Super 4 stage.
However, China recovered from the early shock and kept looking for an equaliser. The effort bore fruit in the second quarter as Chinese captain Ou Zixia scored to level the score from another penalty corner in the 21st minute. Li Hong gave China the lead in the 41st minute before Zou Meirong and Zhong Jiaqi found the net in quick succession to seal the win.
Li was named player of the match.
“Happy for the win and the title. Hopefully we can achieve a good result at next year’s World Cup,” said the Chinese skipper.
China, who captured the silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, maintained a perfect record across the group stage and the Super 4s to lift the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup title.

With this victory, the hosts also secured direct qualification for the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
China and India have now faced each other in the Women’s Hockey Asia Cup hockey finals three times. The Indian women won when they met in 2017.
Earlier on Sunday, Japan defeated South Korea 2-1 to claim the bronze.
