England vs Argentina: England survived an Argentine second-half to record a very hard-won 27-23 victory in the Quilter Nations Series at Twickenham. The game also saw the outstanding debut of Max Ojomoh, whose brilliance in the first half set the tone for England’s 11th consecutive Test win.
First Half: Max Ojomoh Shines on Twickenham Debut
England dominated the first 40 minutes, inspired by an outstanding display from Max Ojomoh. Ojomoh scored England’s opening try. Moments later, his pinpoint cross-field kick created another chance, as England took a commanding 17-3 halftime lead.
England almost extended the difference further before the break, but a try from Luke Cowan-Dickie was disallowed due to a marginal knock-on in the build-up.
Argentina mount second-half comeback
Fresh off a dramatic comeback win against Scotland the previous week, Argentina once again rallied strongly. Justo Piccardo dived over early in the second half. Two penalties from Tomas Albornoz, plus another from Santiago Carreras, saw the gap narrowed to 17-16 after 60 minutes. With the momentum shifted, the Pumas looked poised for another upset. England regained control through Slade’s try.
England responded just in time
A burst from Alex Coles created attacking momentum and Ojomoh again appeared at the heart of the move, linking play for Henry Slade to score under the posts. George Ford’s conversion and a subsequent penalty pushed England ahead 27-16.
Final Minutes: Pumas threaten but fall short
Argentina refused to back down. A cross by Rodrigo Isgro in the last minute, converted by Carreras, cut the deficit to 27–23, and set up a dramatic last play with the Pumas needing one more try. Roared on by passionate Argentinian supporters, the visitors earned a line-out just 10 metres from England’s try line.
But the throw went awry, prompting huge cheers from the Twickenham crowd. Alex Mitchell kicked the ball into touch to seal the win and close out England’s successful 2025 campaign one in which their only defeat came in Dublin back in February.
