Patna Pirates, the most successful franchise in Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) history, has appointed Jasveer Singh as their new head coach for the upcoming season. The seasoned tactician replaces former India captain Anup Kumar, marking another major shift in the team’s leadership structure.
Jasveer previously coached UP Yoddhas from 2018 to 2024. Under his guidance, the Yoddhas became one of the league’s most consistent performers, reaching the playoffs in five out of seven seasons. His ability to maintain squad stability and extract strong performances from young and experienced players alike has earned him widespread acclaim.
“Feels like destiny,” says Jasveer Singh
Expressing enthusiasm about joining the three-time champions, Jasveer said in a release:
“I am happy to join the most successful team in the league. There is no doubt about what the Patna Pirates can achieve. I have reached the playoffs in almost all seasons but the trophy is still pending. It feels right and part of destiny that my first trophy and the Pirates’ fourth come together.”
Patna Pirates aim to build on last season’s spirited comeback
Patna Pirates delivered one of the most memorable turnarounds of PKL Season 12. After languishing at the bottom of the table for the first half of the campaign, the team rallied under interim coach Randeep Dalal, winning five straight matches to qualify for the top eight.
Once the season ended, the franchise released both Anup Kumar and Randeep Dalal, seeking a fresh outlook for the upcoming edition.
Patna Pirates CEO Pawan Rana noted Jasveer’s proven track record and long-term consistency align with the franchise’s ambitions.
“We are happy to bring in Jasveer Singh as the head coach for the next season. A coach of the highest pedigree, he brings a wealth of experience and sustained success with his previous team. Together with the boys, this team has what it takes to take our already established success rate to greater heights.”
