Sarfaraz Khan has achieved his first T20 century after almost two years in the latest edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 with an impressive innings of 100 runs off 47 balls without being dismissed against Assam during their game at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
This was his first time back at the T20 level since his injury, which had kept him out of the game for over two years. His innings saw Mumbai score 220/4 and is now a big contender going into the IPL 2026 auction.
A Dominant Knock Loaded With Boundaries
Batting at No.3, Sarfaraz Khan produced one of the finest T20 knocks of the domestic season.
100 off 47 balls*
8 fours
7 massive sixes
He stitched vital half-century partnerships with Ajinkya Rahane and India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav throughout the innings. The century also became Sarfaraz’s fourth 50+ score in T20 cricket, beating his previous best of 67.
A Strong Statement Ahead of IPL 2026
Sarfaraz Khan, who did not sell during the IPL 2025 auction, has already put it out there that he will register for the IPL in 2026. This century has provided Sarfaraz with great credentials. He is able to score quickly while anchoring an entire batting order under intense pressure.
This performance’s timing before upcoming IPL auction may result in him being higher up on the list of possible returns to IPL. He has played in IPL, previously for teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – therefore he understands what is expected of him in that league.
IPL Teams Likely to Take Notice
Sarfaraz Khan has the ability to perform well in various formats and is a very versatile middle-order batsman. He should offer a team that seeks out an explosive player an interesting option.
His last few innings have shown his ability to clear the ropes, while at the same time, he is continuing to develop into a more mature batsman at the IPL level. With the auction of IPL 2026 around the corner, this century may just be that turning point, which would bring Sarfaraz back into the league.
