It is very much on the cards that Shubman Gill will miss out the test series against England. Wasim Jaffer admits that there is a slot open for the opening batsman. There will be discussions who will be the possible opener in this England test series till gill returns.

Reports on Shubman Gill sustaining a leg injury, it is definitely not the news the team management wants to hear ahead of this England test series. He is a promising youngster who had a good start to his career, unfortunately misses out the most awaited test due to an injury. He is most probably miss out the first test against England.
We can only come to know in the future is he going to miss more than one test or not. The management is in sort of pressure to find out other probable best opening combinations. The opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looks to be the preferred choice by the management. Now the injury to the gill allows other possible openers in the squad mainly Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. Wasim Jaffer says that apart from the Australian tour, he has done a terrific job as an opener when given the opportunity. Agarwal will be slightly ahead in preference, as KL Rahul has not played a test match for India since mid-19. India also has a reserve opener Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Wasim Jaffer feels Agarwal has a nod ahead of KL Rahul and also feels he can be a better replacement over KL Rahul. Wasim Jaffer also felt will be looking to capitalize on this opportunity. It is a very big test series that can have a significant impact on the player’s career. Rahul can be a middle-order batsman or even a potential opener.
Gill tough started his career most impressively but didn’t have a nice home series against England. India looking to win the test series in England after 14 years. So, it’s the wrong time to get injured as it not only affects the team, but also Gill’s carer.
