Punjab stormed into the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 in style by winning over Madhya Pradesh by a huge margin of 183 runs in the third quarter-final match. This victory by Punjab is the largest by runs in the history of Vijay Hazare Trophy by any team on any day of this competition.
Prabhsimran Singh and Anmolpreet Singh Lay Solid Batting Foundation
Batting first, Punjab piled up a total of 345-6, a score that Madhya Pradesh could not even approach. The opening pair of Prabsimran Singh started well by scoring a half-century, while Harnoor Singh scored an important 51, adding 116 for the first wicket.
The lineup has also been strengthened by Anmolpreet Singh, who has played anchor roles in the middle overs, and the finishing touches were provided by Nehal Wadhera’s blistering 56 off only 38 balls and an unbeaten knock of 24 off 15 balls by Ramandeep Singh.
Punjab Bowlers Dominate as MP Collapse
This provoked a collapse in MP, who were bowled out for just 162 in a paltry 31.2 overs. The pursuit of victory did not go according to plan, with MP quickly reduced to 66-5, leaving captain Rajat Patidar with a daunting task. Patidar did not give up, however, and top-scored with 38 runs before batting collapsed once again.
Gurnoor Brar’s Fiery Spell Sets the Tone
Among these remarkable bowling displays, Gurnoor Brar had an outstanding opening spell. With an arrow touching 140 kmph on the Speed Volume, he delivered very attacking hard balls and had only given away 25 runs from the opening 30 balls, taking two important wickets in between.
However, Punjab would be slightly apprehensive about Brar’s fitness, who limped off the field while bowling 6.2 overs and did not return for the latter part of the game.
Sanvir Singh Shines with Three-Wicket Haul
Seam-bowling allrounder Sanvir Singh proved to be invaluable with the ball, picking up three wickets. The best over of the match was when he removed Shubham Sharma and Venkatesh Iyer in one over. Shubham edged an away-swinger to slip while the latter was trapped lbw for a two-ball duck off a sharp inswinger.
