PSL 2026 Auction: The auction of the 11th season of the Pakistan Super League has finally been set for February 11th, 2026, as per confirmation from the Pakistan Super League itself, while stating that they have fixed the date of their auction, they have yet to confirm the venue of their auction event.

This marks an historic moment for the league, seeing that PSL will for the first time since its inception move into an auction-based system for recruiting players.

The Process of Player Bidding to be Conducted in PKR

According to the PSL Official Statement, “all player bid amounts in the PSL 2026 Auction will be in Pakistani Rupees (PKR).

Base Prices by Player Category

Second tier: PKR 22 million

Third tier: PKR 11 million

Fourth tier: PKR 6 million

These revised brackets are meant to improve earnings for players while keeping everything in balance in relation to franchises.

From Draft to Auction: A Landmark PSL Decision

Last week, the Pakistan Cricket Board, or PCB, devised a decision in which the process of the PSL would now completely shift away from the traditional draft style. Such a decision is taken into consideration in order to increase transparency, considering there are two new teams included, namely Hyderabad and Sialkot.

Retention Rules and Squad Composition

Prior to conducting the PSL 2026 auction, franchises have been permitted to retain players in line with set guidelines.

Retention Policy

Maximum four retainings per franchise

One player remained in each of these categories:

  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Gold
  • Silver

The placement of players in these categories has yet to be revealed by PSL.

Squad Requirements

Squad size: 16 to 20 players

Overseas Players: 5 to 7 Mandatory inclusion of one local Under-23 player not previously capped by the PSL

Two-Year Contracts Introduced

The key structural transformation with regards to the PSL 2026 Auction is a system of two-year contracts, which will be applicable to:

Retained Players

Players bought at auction

The move is aimed at adding stability to franchises as well as long-term security to players.

Option for Direct Foreign Player Signing

Besides purchases made by auction:

Each franchise can sign one foreign player directly

Standard Auction Purse: PKR 450 million

Extended Purse (including Direct Signing): PKR 505 million This flexibility also gives them space to strategically improve their teams.

PCB Leadership Backs the Auction Model

The announcement concluded a workshop involving:

PCB Chairman – Mohsin Naqvi

Salman Naseer – CEO, PSL

Representatives of all eight franchises

Prominent Pakistani Players

Naqvi complimented the consultative process and emphasized the positive long-term implications of the auction model:

“The Player Auction model is a landmark step for the HBL PSL, offering players improved financial opportunities and ensuring a transparent and competitive acquisition process,” Naqvi stated.

Multan Sultans Ownership Auction Planned

Separately, another auction would be held by PSL for the purchase of the Multan Sultans team franchise, which is currently unmanned.

Deadline for Technical Bid: January 30

Franchise ownership auction will occur before the PSL 2026 Auction

What the PSL 2026 Auction Means for the League

The PSL 2026 Auction is a significant shift towards a different approach in Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament, given that it allows a higher salary cap, introduces a number of franchises, provides two-year contacts, and follows an open-bidding system.
