England’s Test team’s captain, Ben Stokes, has suffered an injury to his face after being hit by a cricket ball. Stokes received a black eye and notable bruising on his cheek.

Injury Occurred While Watching Nets Session

According to reports, Ben Stokes was not batting nor bowling when the incident occurred; instead, he was standing by the side of the nets practice when the ball hit his face. Ben Stokes has shared a photograph of the injury, which appears on his Instagram stories, in which the English all-rounder has made light of the state of the ball in an attempt to make light of the injury.

Ben Stokes Continues Rehabilitation From Adductor Injury

The facial injury has occurred as Ben Stokes is continuing his recovery from an adductor injury that occurred during the fifth Ashes Test match in Sydney last month. He has been out of cricket since leaving the field, aiming for a full recovery.

Abu Dhabi Trip and Role with England Lions

It is expected that towards the end of this month, Ben Stokes might travel to Abu Dhabi in order to carry on his rehabilitation process. During this time, he also plans on joining the Andrew Flintoff-led England Lions team in an informal coaching capacity.

Limited White-Ball Involvement for England

Ben Stokes has not been part of the white-ball format of English cricket since the ODI World Cup in 2023. Stokes has not been selected in the English squad for the T20 World Cup, which commences this weekend, as he is entirely concentrating on red-ball cricket.

Possible Return in England vs New Zealand Test Series

The next event in which Ben Stokes is scheduled to participate is the first match of England’s home series against New Zealand in June. Before the start of the Test series, he may also participate in competitive cricket by taking part in the County Championship match with Durham.

Ben Stokes Confirms Commitment to Test Captaincy

After England’s 4-1 defeat in the Ashes series in Australia, Ben Stokes reiterated his resolve to remain as Test captain. He also offered his full endorsement of England’s head coach Brendon McCullum, based on their good working relationship.

According to Stokes, although the choice of leader does not entirely lie in Stokes’ hands, he said: “I would certainly support him were the question asked of me, because I enjoy working with him so much, because of his coaching skills as much as anything else.”
