Four Indian Captains with 1000 Plus T20I Runs

Suryakumar Yadav registered his name in the list of Indian captains with more than 1000 runs to their name in T20I cricket

India’s current T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, played a magnificent knock in India’s opening game of the 2026 T20 World Cup, which helped the team post a competitive total on the board after the defending champions found themselves in a lot of trouble early in the match.

With his innings of 84 runs off 49 balls, Suryakumar completed 1000 runs as a captain in T20I cricket.

Rohit Sharma (1905 Runs)

World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma sits at the top of this elite list with 1905 runs to his name in this format of the game at the international level. The right-handed opening batter, who started his international career as a middle-order batter, accumulated 1905 runs in his T20I career with the help of 13 half-centuries, including a best score of 121 not out.

Virat Kohli (1570 Runs)

Player of the Tournament in the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli, who played a decisive knock in what turned out be his last T20I innings, scored 1570 runs as India’s T20I captain in 46 innings with an average of 47.58, which happens to be the best among all the players mentioned in the list. Kohli scored 13 half-centuries as the captain of the Men in Blue.

MS Dhoni (1112 Runs)

The only Indian captain to win all three ICC trophies, as far as white-ball cricket is concerned, MS Dhoni was known for his credentials as a batter, as well, especially in the middle order after becoming the captain of the team

The wicketkeeper batter scored 1112 runs in 62 innings while leading the side, including 32 occasions where he remained unbeaten till the end, the majority of which have resulted in a win for the Men in Blue.

Inrestingly MS Dhoni wasn’t able to cross the fifty-run mark even once in his T20I career, with his highest score being 48 not out. Having said that, it is worth noting that Captain Cool, as he was called, guided the team out of trouble in a number of games.

Suryakumar Yadav (1074 Runs)

India’s present T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, also completed 1000 runs in this format of the game, courtesy of his half-century knock against the United States of America in the team’s 2026 T20 World Cup opener at the Wankhede Stadium, making him the fourth Indian captain to achieve this feat. Suryakumar’s telly currently stands at 1074 runs in 41 innings of 44 matches, including eight half-centuries and one century.
