Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol: India Bags Two More Golds, Sofiya Shulzhenko Of Kazakhstan Sets World Record

Kazakhstan’s Sofiya Shulzhenko set the shooting world alight by smashing the world record in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event, en route to winning gold at the Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range.

The 35-shot final saw Sofiya post a phenomenal 358.2, finishing four points ahead of India’s Aakriti Dahiya, who claimed silver. Anjum Moudgil, India’s seasoned world championship medalist, rounded off the podium with 340.4. Beyond the world record, Sofiya also set new world junior, Asian, and Asian junior records, cementing her dominance in the sport.

Sofiya’s performance was particularly remarkable in the Standing position, where she was the only shooter to consistently score above 50 in each five-shot series. Despite trailing after the Kneeling position, she surged ahead during the Prone stage and maintained her lead to the finish.

Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol: How it unfolded for India

The junior women’s 3P final belonged to India’s Prachi G. Saikwad, who clinched gold with a score of 353.3. Fourteen-year-old Kazakhstan sensation Tomiris Amanova took silver (351.4), while India’s Anushka Thokur secured bronze (341.1).

In the team event, Prachi, Anushka, and Hazel combined to deliver a tally of 1748, comfortably seven points ahead of Kazakhstan. Their stellar teamwork highlighted India’s rising talent in the junior category.

The senior women’s team event saw Kazakhstan turn the tables on India, taking gold with a combined score of 1760, four points clear of the Indian squad.

On the men’s side, India’s Adarsh Singh dominated the first precision round of the 25m rapid-fire pistol event, posting 291/300 and taking pole position. Olympic hopeful Anish Bhanwala remained in contention with 287, while Neeraj Kumar will need a strong second round to make the finals after a 277.

India’s Medal Tally

India continue to lead the championship comfortably with 39 gold, 15 silver, and 12 bronze medals, asserting their dominance across multiple shooting disciplines.
