T20 is often regarded as a batter’s game with the number of big hits and scores that we see on a regular basis. Teams crossing the 200-run mark have become a new normal, especially in the last couple of years, with them not only scoring 200 runs while batting first but also chasing them with relative ease.
Having said that, the same can’t be said when it comes to the T20 World Cup, as there have been a handful of occasions when teams have successfully chased the score of 200 or more.

230 – England (230/8) vs South Africa (229/4), Mumbai (Wankhede), 2016
The 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup held in India saw a run fest when England took on South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the Proteas posted an above-par total of 229 runs and would have been confident of defending it.
But England had other ideas as the then Eoin Morgan-led side accomplished the highest successful run chase in the history of the competition.

206 – South Africa (208/2) vs West Indies (205/6), Johannesburg, 2007
If we talk about the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, which took place in South Africa, saw a number of records being broken and new records being made. One of them was when the home team chased a target of 206 runs set by the West Indies.

195 – USA (197/3) vs Canada (194/5), Dallas, 2024
The USA also finds itself in the last of the top five highest successful run chases in the T20 World Cup, having done so against Canada in the opening match of the 2024 edition, courtesy of a match-winning knock from Aron Jones, who scored an unbeaten half-century to take his team over the line to start the 20-team tournament with a win.

193 – West Indies (196/3) vs India (192/2), Mumbai (Wankhede) 2016 Semifinal
The IND vs WI semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2016, played at the Wankhede Stadium, saw the eventual champions, West Indies, overhaul a target of 193 runs led by Lendl Simmons, who scored a half-century to take his team into the final

192 – Australia (197/7) vs Pakistan (191/6), Gros Islet, Saint Lucia, 2010 Semifinal
Another knock, which was played in the semifinal this time in the 2010 T20 in the West Indies b Michael Hussey led to Australia scripting a come-from-behind win against Pakistan in the final few overs of the game and was supported by lower-order batters.
