The T20 World Cup, which is in its tenth edition, has been the centre of some iconic performances over the years. Players have come up with some outstanding performances since its inception in 2007, including Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in an over against England during the first edition held in South Africa, which India ended up winning.
The Start
The tournament, which was expected to be dominated by the batters, has, over the years, seen bowlers outfoxing them with the new variations they come up with every time they are put under pressure.
The Evolution
The need for the bowlers to adopt also comes with the conditions that the T20 World Cup is played, which has little to nothing as far as assistance for bowlers is concerned, and the surfaces used for the games allow the batters to play their shots right from the first ball.

The Performance
If we talk about some memorable performances from the point of view of bowlers, the one that stands out is experienced Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath’s match-winning spell against New Zealand while defending a low total in the 2014 T20 World Cup edition.
Hearth took five wickets while conceding only three runs in his four-over spell and took his team and eventual champions Sri Lanka to an unlikely win.
The Batters
Like bowlers, the batters have also delivered some iconic performances in the history of the tournament, both while batting first and while chasing, which includes Chris Gayle’s century against South Africa in the first-ever T20 World Cup, followed by Dilshan’s consistent run of form for Sri Lanka in the 2009 edition, which helped Sri Lanka reach the final that year.
The Consistency
When it comes to the team that has been the most consistent one in the competotion not on the basis of number of wins but on the basis of making it to the top four courtesy of a disciplined performance with bat and ball Pakistan which is taged as unpridictable has made it to the top four the most number of times unlike Australia who haven’t had the kind of domination they enjoy in ODI World Cup.
The Surprise
Despite making it to the knockout the most number of times, Pakistan don’t have a lot of batters in the list of batters with the most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition, which shows that the team hasn’t depended on a single batter to score the bulk of the runs.
One Man Show
Although the situation has changed with the retirement of Virat Kohli from T20I cricket, there is no denying the fact that the former Indian captain was the backbone of the team in most of the World Cup editions.
The Evidence
The above mentioned fact is reiterated by the list of batters with most runs in a T20 World Cup tournament
