The ICC has officially revealed the shortlist for the Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2026. The announcement comes just days before the final match of the tournament, where India and New Zealand will compete for the championship.

The final is scheduled to take place on March 8, and both teams are preparing for what promises to be an exciting clash. Ahead of the title match, the ICC has selected eight players who delivered outstanding performances during the tournament.

Interestingly, only one player from India has been included in the list of nominees.

Sanju Samson Only Indian In The List

India’s Sanju Samson is the only player from the Indian squad nominated for the Player of the Tournament award. His selection has surprised many fans because several other Indian players also performed well during the tournament.

Samson played only four matches but made a strong impact with the bat. He scored 232 runs with an impressive average of 77.33 and a strike rate of over 200.

His aggressive batting helped India during important moments in the competition. Because of his ability to score quickly and consistently, the ICC included him in the final shortlist.

Strong Performers From Other Teams

Several players from other teams have also been nominated after delivering strong performances throughout the tournament.

England’s Will Jacks had a balanced tournament with both bat and ball. In eight matches he scored 226 runs while also taking nine wickets, making him one of the most complete performers in the competition.

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan had an outstanding run with the bat. In seven matches he scored 383 runs at an average of 76.60. His attacking approach played a big role in Pakistan’s campaign.

South Africa also has two players on the list. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi picked up 12 wickets in seven matches with an economy rate of just above seven. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram scored 286 runs and also contributed with the ball.

New Zealand Players Also Make The List

New Zealand, who have reached the final, also have strong representation in the nominations.

Rachin Ravindra impressed with his all round performance. He contributed with both bat and ball during the tournament, taking 11 wickets while also scoring important runs.

Tim Seifert also made the shortlist after scoring 274 runs in eight matches. His aggressive batting at the top of the order helped New Zealand reach the final stage of the tournament.

Surprise Entry From USA

Another interesting name on the list is Shadley van Schalkwyk from the United States team. Even though the USA did not reach the final stages, his bowling performances caught the attention of cricket experts.

In just four matches, he managed to take 13 wickets with an economy rate below seven. His ability to take wickets regularly made him one of the most effective bowlers in the tournament.

Award To Be Announced After Final

The Player of the Tournament award will be decided after the final match between India and New Zealand. Performances in the final could also influence the final decision.

This award recognizes the player who had the biggest impact throughout the tournament. Batting, bowling, and overall match influence are all considered before selecting the winner.

Final Match Will Decide The Champion

While the Player of the Tournament award will honor the best individual performance, the main focus will be on the final match where India and New Zealand will fight for the T20 World Cup trophy.

Both teams have played strong cricket throughout the tournament, which makes the final even more exciting for fans.

With several players already performing at a high level, the final could also produce another memorable performance before the ICC announces the winner of the Player of the Tournament award.
