India and New Zealand will go head-to-head in the final of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both teams will be facing each other in the fourth overall and second consecutive final of an ICC event.
The Occasions
The three occasions when the two teams have battled it out in the final came in 2000 during the ICC Knockout Trophy, in 2021 during the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship, and most recently in the 2025 Champions Trophy. While New Zealand got the better of India in thefirst two games, the Men in Blue were able to get over the line last year.
The Performance
If we talk about the overall head-to-head record of matches played between India and New Zealand, it is India that has the upper hand with 18 wins from 30 games, as compared to New Zealand’s 11, while one match has ended in a tie.
The Journey
When it comes to the journey of both teams till the final of the tournament, India has had their share of crunch moments, which the Men in Blue have found a way to come out of, including losing early wickets while batting first against USA in their tournament opener and as recently as in the semifinal against England, which they ended up winning by seven runs.
The Kiwis
New Zealand, on the other hand, had a smooth sailing in the first round of the tournament, barring the match against South Africa, and needed a little favour from Sri Lanka to qualify for the semifinal, having lost their last match of the Super Eight round against England.
