India’s discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur who making her debut in Olympics in India got under the top8 by finishing 6th position in the final Her best throw of 63.70m in a rain interrupted final that happened on Monday. Kamalpreet Kaur who is 25 years-old was second in the qualification round that happened on Saturday. But in the finals she never looked in contention for the Olympic medals in the eight rounds of the competition. The finals of the discus was then interrupted by rain for more than hour.
In the third and final round Kamalpreet Kaur threw the discus at a distance of 63.70m and she eventually ended in sixth position. She has equalled the record of Krishna Poonia’s performances in the 2012 London Olympics. Krishna Poonia’s was the gold medallist in 2010 in Common Wealth Games.
India’s discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur was without her personal coach in the finals as she looked nervous and short of confidence in the entire competition. He reason could be the lack of international exposure. Previous to this Toyo Olympics she participated only in one international competition that is World University Games that happened in 2017.
Kamalpreet Kaur who was born in Punjab’s Kabarwala village born to a farmer raised the hopes of India’s elusive medal as she ended up in the second in qualification round for the finals. In the qualification round that happened on Saturday her best throw was of 64m.
It was finally the American Valarie Allman who won the god medal in the Discus throw finals. In the first round the American the discus at a distance of 68.98m. Kristen Pudenz (66.86) of Germany won the silver medal and reigning world champion Yaime Perez (66.72m) from Cuba won the bronze medal.
Sandra Perkovic who is the two-time defending champion of Croatia finished in the fourth position in the finals with her best throw of 65.01m.
