The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is reportedly concerned about the government’s decision to investigate the board’s election, which took place in October 2025.
This is in response to a gazette published by the National Sports Council, which states that a committee will be formed to look into the election process.
BCB’s Stand: Legitimate and Functional Administration
In their statement, the BCB clearly mentioned that their current leadership is a democratically elected and fully functional governing board, which has been functioning strictly in accordance with their constitution and governing policies.
They also mentioned that their board has been responsibly managing cricket in Bangladesh since taking office.
Rising Concerns: Threat of ICC Suspension
BCB warned that such a move by the government may raise a red flag under the governance regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC). If there is a perception that some external agency is interfering in the running of a cricket board, it may invite ICC Suspension.
ICC’s Position on External Interference
According to BCB, it has been gathered through informal talks with ICC authorities that there is a possibility of compliance scrutiny if there is any interference in an elected cricket board. ICC has very strict rules to maintain independent governing boards of their members.
Next Steps: Dialogue Before Escalation
Rather than escalating this matter immediately, a diplomatic stance has been taken by the BCB. The Bangladesh Cricket Board plans to talk to the National Sports Council about this issue in order to:
Understand what this inquiry is about
Understand what this inquiry may lead to
Avoid escalation to the ICC
Call for Stability and Governance Autonomy
The BCB has asked the concerned authorities to settle this matter in a way that ensures:
Independence in cricket administration is maintained
There is stability in cricket administration
The reputation of Bangladesh in global cricket is maintained
