In a historic instance witnessed in the year 2026 in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bhuvneshwar Singh (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) made his mark on the record pages through an unparalleled accomplishment even some legends could not achieve.

Fastest Bowler to Capture 200 IPL Wickets

Bhuvneshwar Kumar from Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the:

  • First-ever fast bowler to secure 200 wickets in the history of IPL
  • Second-ever bowler to attain this legendary status

Elite Company: Chahal and Narine

With this milestone, Bhuvneshwar joins some of the greatest bowlers in IPL history:

  • Yuzvendra Chahal – 224 wickets (highest wicket-taker)
  • Sunil Narine – 193 wickets

Bhuvneshwar now stands second on the all-time list with:

  • 200 wickets in 192 matches
  • Average of 27.25

How Bhuvneshwar Singh Reached the Milestone

The defining moment for him arrived when he was playing against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 match held at the historic M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

He got the wicket of Ayush Mhatre, bowled a good fast delivery on the off stump, made him play an untimely pull stroke and Rajat Patidar took a comfortable catch at mid-off position. It was a typical instance of his excellent bowling skills.

A Record Even Bumrah and Malinga Didn’t Achieve

What’s an added level of milestone is the fact that he has since surpassed two of the most well-renowned bowlers in T20 history Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga.

The two legends are currently not at the 200 marks for wickets taken in IPL history demonstrating how unique it is for Bhuvneshwar Singh (who is now at 201 wickets) to have made his name in history.

Why This Milestone Matters

Clearly, these qualities are important when considering the fact that:

  • You play for many seasons in a very competitive league,
  • You are consistently good over multiple seasons,
  • You perform well under pressure.

Bhuvneshwar Singh is a significant contributor to every team he has played for; therefore, this record solidifies him as one of the best fast bowlers of all time (in addition to his being an outstanding cricketer).
