Oscar Piastri is still early in his Formula 1 journey, but the McLaren driver is already thinking about what comes after the chequered flag for good.

Oscar Piastri Opens Up on Life Beyond F1

The 25-year-old McLaren driver recently admitted that one of the biggest questions on his mind has nothing to do with racing.

Speaking in a video on Formula 1’s official YouTube channel, Oscar Piastri was asked what he is still trying to figure out in life.  He answered, “I think probably what I’m going to do after Formula 1, it’s quite a big philosophical point, I know, but yeah, my career will come to an end one day, and I need to work out what I’m going to do after that.”

For a driver only in his fourth season, it is a rare kind of honesty, especially in a sport where most focus is firmly on the next race, not the end of the road.

Oscar Piastri’s present frame of mind is reflective of the difficulties experienced during a frustrating 2026 campaign. Following a dominant seven-time race-winning 2025 season in which he was a contender for the 2026 championship until finishing second overall in 2025, he has been able to quickly adapt to this year’s challenges.

Missing the first two races in Australia and China put Oscar in an uphill battle from the start. Finishing second in Japan allowed him to recover some of the points he lost at the beginning of the year. But after Japan, he is still 51 points behind first place Kimi Antonelli in the championship points chase.

At the same time, Oscar continues to feel the pressure of teammate Lando Norris, as well as the other top competitors, such as Max Verstappen, who are positioned ahead of him.

Despite the setbacks, Oscar Piastri’s comments show a broader perspective that many drivers only reach much later in their careers. When someone off-camera pointed out that he still has plenty of time, his response was simple: “I hope so.”

That line says a lot. In a sport where careers can shift quickly, even young drivers understand that nothing is guaranteed.

However, for now, Oscar Piastri remains focused on getting his season back on track and closing the gap in the standings. But his reflections offer a glimpse into a different side of a modern F1 driver, one who is not just chasing results, but also thinking about life beyond the sport.

It is a reminder that even at the highest level of motorsport, the biggest questions are not always about speed or standings, but about what comes next.
