FC Barcelona’s plans for next season are slowly becoming clearer, and right now, it doesn’t look like Marcus Rashford will be part of them. What initially felt like a move that could work out for both sides has lost momentum, with doubts growing over whether the club will push to keep him beyond this campaign.
A big part of that comes down to his recent performances. Through 2026, Rashford hasn’t quite managed to deliver when the team needed him most. With Raphinha missing for a period, there was a clear opening for him to step into a more important role, but that opportunity hasn’t really translated into consistent impact on the pitch. As a result, questions have started to surface internally about his place in the squad moving forward.
🚨 Barcelona are increasingly unlikely to keep Marcus Rashford beyond this season, with his continuity now in serious doubt. 📉
His performances in 2026 have dipped significantly, failing to step up during Raphinha’s absence.

Finances and form cause issue for Marcus Rashord at FC Barcelona
There’s also the financial side, which makes the situation even more complicated. Manchester United are understood to be sticking to a €30 million buy option, and that figure is not an easy one for FC Barcelona to commit to right now.
Once wages and amortisation are factored in, the overall cost climbs to around €25 million per year under financial fair play calculations. For a club that is still being careful with spending, that’s a significant outlay, especially for a player who hasn’t fully convinced on the pitch.
Put those two things together, inconsistent form and a heavy financial commitment, and it becomes easier to see why FC Barcelona are hesitant. At this stage, only a strong finish to the season could change the direction of things. Rashford still has time to make a case for himself, but with the campaign nearing its end, that window is starting to close.
That said, it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. Do you think Marcus Rashford could cement his place in the team with a quick turn of form or not?
