IPL 2026: The 28-year-old has been part of the KKR setup since 2018 and has gradually become one of the most familiar faces in the squad over the years. Going into the season, he was named vice-captain and even took over leadership duties during the second half of the match against MI. While he appeared slightly unsettled in that game, his response in the next two matches reflected strong intent and leadership qualities. He was actively involved on the field, constantly motivating and pushing his teammates. His contributions proved important in KKR’s victories over RR and LSG, suggesting that he has regained confidence and rhythm.
Kaif praises Rinku as a Captain
Beyond the IPL, he has also led Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. That experience, combined with his recent performances, has been enough for former cricketer Mohammed Kaif to back him as a strong candidate for KKR’s future captaincy role. Mohammed Kaif has strongly backed the idea of grooming Rinku Singh as KKR’s future captain, calling him a complete all-format player. While he is yet to feature in the Test setup, Kaif believes Rinku is consistent across formats.
‘Youngster has ability’
He also pointed out that Rinku already leads Uttar Pradesh, which shows his readiness for leadership at a higher level. According to Kaif, the youngster has the mental toughness required to balance both batting responsibilities and captaincy duties without losing focus. Kaif further stressed that KKR already have a captaincy-ready option in their ranks. With the franchise looking for a fresh direction, Rinku Singh could be the player to guide them into a new phase.
Finn Allen and Tim Seifert Opening Duo
KKR could completely reshape their top-order combination if Rahane is moved out of the setup. That change would open the door for players like Tim Seifert or Finn Allen to take up the opening slot alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi, or even Cameron Green in a flexible batting role.
Will he replace Rahane?
The Australian all-rounder is gradually settling into his role, and this could be an ideal opportunity for KKR to fully utilise his skill set. However, that transition would only be possible if Rahane is no longer part of the top-order plans. If Rinku Singh is handed the captaincy, it could also give KKR the freedom to adopt a more flexible and aggressive batting approach, with greater experimentation in their lineup.
Long Term for Rinku Singh
Even though KKR will hope to stay alive in the playoff race, the reality is that the competition is extremely tight. One defeat could severely damage their chances. If that situation arises, the focus should shift away from short-term fixes and towards building a long-term core around Rinku Singh. He could lead the franchise for the next five to six years, giving him enough time to grow into the role and gradually shape the team according to his vision.
