IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals(DC) are fast running out of chances in season 19 of the Indian Premier League.  A playoff spot is still possible, but there is hardly any room left for mistakes, and the calls they make from here could shape the outcome of their campaign. Friday’s meeting with Kolkata Knight Riders may not officially be a knockout game, yet it feels just as crucial. Amid the mounting pressure, one debate continues to grow louder: should Prithvi Shaw finally get his opportunity?

The talent that never truly found its rhythm

There is something both frustrating and emotional about Prithvi Shaw’s journey. When he burst onto the scene, he had every ingredient to become a star: quick feet, fearless strokeplay, and the natural confidence that sets special players apart. For a period, he looked destined for the top.

Then things slowly began to unravel. Questions around consistency and discipline started following him, while the runs became harder to find. What once looked like a bright, long-term career gradually turned into a story of missed chances. Now, at a point where every IPL opportunity carries extra weight, Shaw is yet to feature for Delhi Capitals this season. When Delhi brought him back, there was a feeling that this could be a fresh start at the franchise where his IPL rise began. Until now, though, that opportunity has remained out of reach.

Must win game for Delhi

The equation is simple on paper, but far tougher in reality. Delhi Capitals must win every remaining match, ideally by strong margins, and rely on other results going their way to stay alive in the playoff race. That’s easier said than done given the schedule ahead. After facing Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, they head to Dharamsala to meet Punjab Kings, return home for a clash with Rajasthan Royals, and then wrap up with another meeting against KKR at Eden Gardens. There are no easy fixtures here, only sides still fighting for their own goals.

The bowling unit has generally done its job and kept Delhi in games. It has been consistent enough to give them a chance on most days. The real concern is at the top, if the batting order continues to struggle, the rest of the effort won’t be enough.

Long way ahead of Playoffs

In simple terms, Delhi needs a spark. Not a complete overhaul, not a big tactical reset, but a change that shifts the energy in the dressing room and convinces them the campaign is still alive. That spark could come from Prithvi Shaw  But with every passing match tightening the noose, caution is no longer a luxury they can afford.
