Scotland women cricket team receives their veteran player Kirstie Gordon back as she has joined them after representing England for quite some time.
Gordon, who has been an integral part of both teams’ successes over the years, now has returned home to help represent Scotland in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 next month.
Kirstie Gordon Makes Emotional Return to Scotland
Kirstie Gordon is back in the Scotland setup after having completed her time with England. The 28-year-old also played for Scotland back in 2017, prior to switching to England for the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Kirstie Gordon revitalised her commitment to Scottish cricket back in December, and now that she is back wearing Scottish colours, she will be a very important part of the team’s global tournament campaign.
Kirstie Gordon is returning in time to help give Scotland a huge boost as they continue their preparations for their second straight Women’s T20 World Cup.
Kirstie Gordon’s International Career
Before joining England, Kirstie Gordon played for Scotland in sixty matches from 2012 to 2017, making her one of the best spin bowlers in the country.
She played five T20I matches for England in the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup with a fantastic performance of 3 for 16 in her very first match against Bangladesh, followed by three wickets in a Test match against Australia in 2019.
Scotland Head Coach Praises Kirstie Gordon
Scotland Women’s Head Coach Craig Wallace spoke highly of Gordon returning to the team, suggesting that it is representative of the continued development of Women’s Cricket in Scotland.
Wallace pointed out the increasing strength of the team overall and commented on how Gordon’s decision to give it another go shows how competitive and ambitious the Scottish team has developed into recently.
By having experience at the highest level through Gordon, Wallace believes this will increase the standards within the team and help to support continue to develop younger players.
Young Talent Included in Scotland Squad
On their trip to play, the Scottish women’s international cricket team (SWIC) have include some of the up-and-coming talent from their Performance team (U19 & U19 Tri-Nations) who competed at the recent World Cup (held in Malaysia).
Gabriella Fontenla (young bowler), Maisie Maceira (young bowler) & Pippa Sproul (wicketer-batter) have been included in this 15 player squad.
The team captain will be Kathryn Bryce (all-rounder), while Sarah Bryce (all-rounder) is also expected to do well amongst their batting options.
Scotland’s Group and Opening Match
The group in which Scotland is located (Group B of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026) is a difficult one, featuring heavyweights such as England, Ireland, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Scotland will open their tournament against Ireland at Old Trafford on 13th June.
