IPL 2026: It was the 64th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 19, where Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Supergiants by 7 wickets, and again, there was one man, one Show. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his sensational run in IPL 2026 by scripting history on May 19 during Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. At just 15, the young left-hander became the first Indian batter to smash 50 sixes in a single IPL season, a feat previously achieved only by legends like Chris Gayle and Andre Russell
The teenager lit up Jaipur with a breathtaking innings of 93 from only 38 deliveries. His knock was packed with fearless strokeplay, including seven boundaries and 10 towering sixes that left the Lucknow bowlers searching for answers. With this innings, Sooryavanshi’s six tally for the season climbed to 53 in just 13 matches, placing him second on the all-time list for most sixes in a single IPL edition.
Gayle still sits at the top with 59 sixes during his unforgettable 2012 campaign, but Sooryavanshi is now only six maximums away from matching that iconic record. Even if the Rajasthan Royals fail to make the playoffs, the youngster still has another league match left to close the gap further.

Chris Gayle (2012) – 59 sixes
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (2026) – 53 sixes
Andre Russell (2019) – 52 sixes

Jos Buttler (2022) – 45 sixes
Chris Gayle (2011) – 44 sixes
How Sooryavanshi Changed the Game Against Lucknow
Interestingly, the innings did not begin with fireworks. Sooryavanshi looked measured early on, managing only five runs from his first 10 balls. While Yashasvi Jaiswal kept the scoreboard ticking, the youngster took his time to settle in and assess the conditions. But once he found his rhythm, the entire momentum of the match shifted.
The left-hander suddenly unleashed an attacking masterclass, tearing into both pacers and spinners with complete confidence. Anything short was pulled with authority, while fuller deliveries disappeared straight over the boundary ropes. His clean striking and fearless intent completely rattled the Lucknow attack during the middle overs.
What stood out most was the maturity behind the aggression. He wasn’t swinging blindly , he picked his moments, read the bowlers early, and maintained control despite the high required rate. Boundaries started flowing regularly as he accelerated rapidly, bringing up a stunning half-century in just 38 balls while keeping Rajasthan firmly in command of the chase.
Vaibhav just missed Century
A maiden IPL century looked inevitable before Mohsin Khan outfoxed him with a slower ball. Attempting another big hit, Sooryavanshi mistimed it and was caught at long-on for 93. Although he fell seven runs short of a hundred, the damage had already been done.
By the time he walked back, the Royals were cruising, and they eventually chased down the massive 221-run target with five balls to spare. More than the result, it was another reminder that IPL 2026 may well be witnessing the rise of cricket’s next big superstar.
