After an incredible performance, it looked like Sebastian Vettel had taken Ferrari’s first (1st) victory of the season by starting in Pole Position, but on lap 48, between himself and Lewis Hamilton, he made a mistake at Turn 4, going off the track and into the grass.
After going off the track, when Sebastian Vettel rejoined the track, he cut back onto the racing surface, forcing Hamilton to back out of the throttle and creating a 5-second penalty for Hamilton for ‘unsafe re-entry’ by the Race Director. Of the many funny traditions that happen over the weekend in Montreal, one of those would be that the F1 teams, FIA, engineers, media, and team principals build makeshift rafts within 45 minutes of racing them across a lake that is right next to the Circuit.
The raft races gained fame in the 1990s, and then they briefly came back in 2017.

Before the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix, heavy rainfall caused delays for sporting events at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
