Bruno Fernandes has officially made Premier League history after recording the most assists ever in a single season. The Manchester United captain picked up his 21st assist of the 2025/26 campaign during United’s 3-0 win over Brighton on the final day of the season, moving ahead of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who both previously held the record with 20.
The record-breaking moment arrived in the first half at the Amex Stadium. Fernandes whipped in a dangerous corner that Patrick Dorgu converted, giving the Portuguese midfielder the assist that pushed him into first place on his own.
Bruno Fernandes Finally Breaks The Record
For years, Thierry Henry’s 20-assist season for Arsenal in 2002/03 was viewed as one of the greatest creative campaigns the Premier League had ever seen. Kevin De Bruyne later matched the total with Manchester City during the 2019/20 season, but nobody had managed to go beyond it until Fernandes finally did this year.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is how consistent Fernandes was across the entire campaign. He finished the season with 30 Premier League goal contributions overall and once again proved how important he remains to Manchester United’s attack.

Interestingly, Fernandes did not even register his first league assist of the season until October against Liverpool at Anfield. After that, though, his numbers exploded. Week after week, he became the creative focal point for United, constantly finding teammates with through balls, crosses, and set-piece deliveries.
Earlier in the month, Bruno Fernandes had already equalled the long-standing record when he reached 20 assists against Nottingham Forest. That performance brought him level with Henry and De Bruyne before he finally moved clear on the final day against Brighton.
The record also says a lot about Bruno Fernandes’ role within the current Manchester United side. Regardless of tactical changes or pressure surrounding the club, he continued to produce chances consistently and carried much of the creative responsibility throughout the season.
Fans reacted immediately after the record was confirmed, with many praising the United captain for producing historic numbers despite the pressure that comes with playing at Old Trafford. Others pointed out that breaking a record previously shared by players like Henry and De Bruyne puts Bruno Fernandes in elite company when it comes to Premier League playmakers.
In a league that has seen some of football’s greatest creators over the years, Bruno Fernandes now sits alone at the top of the assist record charts.
