Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wrecked havoc at the PCA New Cricket Stadium with his explosive knock against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator. Sooryavanshi’s explosive knock led RR to a 47-run win over the Pat Cummins-led side.

In the eliminator clash against SRH, the 15-year-old scored 97 runs off just 29 balls at an explosive strike rate of 334.48, laced with five boundaries and 12 sixes. Earlier, Sooryavanshi reached his half-century off just 16 balls, and later unleashed a carnage.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripted history in IPL eliminator clash

Before reaching his fifty in the match, Vaibhav scripted history as he became the uncapped player with the most runs in a single IPL season. Sooryavanshi needed just 44 runs to overtake his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record of 626 runs, which he scored for RR in IPL 2023.

The young prodigy achieved the feat after playing just 15 balls in the Eliminator. In the list of most runs by an uncapped player, Sooryavanshi is followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shaun Marsh, who played for Punjab Kings in 2008, Riyan Parag for RR in 2021, and Prabhsimran Singh for PBKS in 2025.

Vaibhav Sooryavnshi surpasses Chris Gayle

Vaibhav Sooryavnshi broke multiple records in the match. He became the first player in the world to smash 60 plus sixes in a tournament, while he also surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle’s record for smashing the most sixes in a T20 tournament. In IPL 2012, Chris Gayle smashed a total of 59 sixes for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 15 matches.

Sooryavnshi, who is the leading run-scorer for RR in IPL 2026, also equaled Mr. IPL aka Suresh Raina’s record for fastest IPL half-century in playoff history. Raina achieved this feat in IPL 2014, while playing for the Chennai Super Kings

Sooryavanshi’s knock guided RR to Qualifier 2, where they will face Shuman Gill-led Gujarat Titans at the New PCA Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on May 29. GT, who faced RCB in Qualifier 1 suffered a 92-run defeat, they will be keen to make a strong comeback and seal their IPL berth.
