England’s legendary Test batter Joe Root will be a key player in the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand, which is scheduled to start on June 4 at Lord’s.

The World No.1 right-handed Test batter from Yorkshire is England’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket and is on the verge of achieving several milestones during the series. If Root manages to score 75 runs in the first Test, he will become the first to score 2,000 runs against New Zealand in Test cricket.

Joe Root is all set to break multiple Test records

Root currently sits at 1,925 runs in 40 innings of 21 Test matches against the Black Caps. Pakistan’s Javed Miandad sits second on the list to score the most runs against the Kiwis in Tests. He has amassed 1,919 runs in 18 Tests between 1976 and 1993. Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar are in the third and fourth spots with 1,659 and 1,595 runs respectively, while South Africa’s star all-rounder Jacques Kallis is also one of the leading run-scorers against New Zealand.

Root can achieve another massive feat during the first Test as he needs just 57 more runs to become the second batter in Test history to reach the 14,000-run mark. He currently has 13,943 runs in 163 Test matches. India’s great Sachin Tendulkar is the only batter to score 14,000 runs in Test cricket, as he has scored 15,921 runs in 200 Tests for India between 1989 and 2013.

Root has also showcased an impressive show at home, as he has amassed 7,329 Test runs in 84 matches. He needs to score 340 more runs to surpass Australia’s great Ricky Ponting’s tally of 7,578 runs and climb to the top of the all-time list for most runs scored in home Test matches.

Root has smashed a total of 41 centuries and 66 half-centuries in Test cricket. Among active cricketers, Root has scored the most centuries in Test cricket, while only Sachin Tendulkar tops the all-time list of leading run-scorers in the longest format.
