Australia plays England at home in the historical Ashes series in December. The series is set to begin in December and continue into January of 2022.
The nation’s cricketing body, Cricket Australia is trying to bring in crowds for the matches scheduled around the end of the year despite the nation suffering from the third wave of Covid-19 infections. Chief Executive Nick Hockley feels that the rising vaccination rates are giving him optimism. He is also optimistic that the series against England will go ahead as planned.
Brisbane will host the first match of the Test series starting on December the 8th. Meanwhile, Melbourne and Sydney are the venues for the third and fourth test matches. However, both cities are currently in lockdown due to the infections caused by the delta variant of Covid-19.
Hockley stated that the rate of vaccination gives him optimism about the availability of crowds in Melbourne and Sydney.
Meanwhile, reports are suggesting that many England cricketers could opt out of the series if they are not allowed to bring their families. This is because of the Australian border control. Cricket Australia is working with the Australian Government on finding a solution.
Hockley assured that both parties want to field the best possible teams. Both teams want to compete at their absolute best in the biggest stage in International Cricket.
Australia next plays in October in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
