DRS – Decision Review System is to be used in Men’s T20 World Cup for the first time ever. The system has not been deployed in previous editions of the Men’s T20 World Cups. ICC has announced that the system will be available for the soon-to-start tournament later this month.
Each team will get two appeals per inning. ICC had confirmed in June last year an additional unsuccessful DRS review for each team in each innings of a match across all formats.
Owing to Covid-19 less experienced umpires might officiate the matches. Keeping that in mind ICC has increased the number of unsuccessful appeals has been increased.
The number of unsuccessful appeals per innings for each team has since increased to two for the white-ball formats and three for Tests.
ICC has also decided to increase the number of minimum overs in rain-hit matches. Each team will need to bat a minimum of 5 overs to effect a result using the DLS method in the group stages. Meanwhile, in the semifinals and finals, each team should have batted at least 10 overs for the result to be declared via the DLS method. This format was followed in last year’s Women’s T20 World Cup.
The DRS – Decision Review System was not used in previous editions of the Men’s World Cup. It was first used in the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2018 where each team got 1 review per innings. DRS was not used in Men’s T20 World Cup before since the last edition took place in 2016.
India takes on Pakistan in its first match at the tournament on October 24.
